After five years of increases, police-reported crime in Canada was down in 2020, but incidents of hate crime increased sharply
Police-reported crime in Canada, as measured by the Crime Severity Index (CSI), decreased 8% in the first year of the pandemic—falling from 79.8 in 2019 to 73.4 in 2020. All measures of the CSI—the overall CSI, the Violent CSI and the Non-violent CSI—decreased for the first time after five years of increases. In contrast, the number of police-reported hate crimes rose 37%.

New motor vehicle registration, first quarter 2021
Canadians registered 11.8% more new motor vehicles in the first quarter of 2021 than in the same quarter a year earlier, when dealerships closed in mid-March at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the 375,826 new motor vehicles registered in the first quarter were down 6.5% from the number registered in the same quarter of 2019.
Dairy statistics, May 2021
The total amount of milk sold off farms in May increased 4.1% year over year to 801 829 kilolitres. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes decreased 1.8% to 221 242 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes rose 6.5% year over year to 580 587 kilolitres.

Oilseed processors crushed 829 846 tonnes of canola in June. Oil production totalled 362 131 tonnes, while meal production totalled 472 034 tonnes.

Millers milled 264 475 tonnes of wheat in June, while wheat flour production totalled 205 674 tonnes.
