Building permits, May 2022
The total value of building permits in Canada rose 2.3% in May to $12.1 billion. The non-residential sector increased 7.0% to $4.3 billion, while the residential sector edged down 0.1% to $7.8 billion.

Canadian farmers reported planting more wheat, lentils, corn for grain and oats, but fewer acres of canola, barley, soybeans and dry peas, according to the 2022 June Field Crop Survey.

Oilseed crushing statistics, May 2022
Oilseed processors crushed 591 780 tonnes of canola in May. Oil production totalled 247 535 tonnes, while meal production totalled 355 774 tonnes.
Canadian Tourism Activity Tracker, April 2022
In April, overall tourism activity in Canada was 24.3% below the level reached in April 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourism activity as a whole has steadily improved since May 2021, except for a temporary pause in January 2022 due to the Omicron variant and renewed restrictions.
Non-profit institutions and volunteering: Economic contribution, first quarter 2022
Real gross domestic product (GDP) of non-profit institutions edged down 0.3% in the first quarter of 2022, the first quarterly decrease since the second quarter of 2020, when real GDP of non-profits fell 2.5% owing to the widespread shutdowns imposed to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Sawmills produced 4 339.1 thousand cubic metres of lumber in April, down 14.2% from March 2022 and down 16.4% from April 2021.
