Canada’s international transactions in securities, April 2020
Foreign investment in Canadian securities reached a record-high of $49.0 billion in April, all in debt securities. Meanwhile, Canadian divestment in foreign securities eased considerably to $134 million, following a record-level divestment in March.

Real gross domestic product (GDP) of the natural resources sector rose in all provinces except Manitoba and New Brunswick in 2018. Nationally, natural resources real GDP grew 4.0%, compared with a 2.0% rise in economy-wide real GDP.
Study: Labour market experience, gender diversity and the success of women-owned enterprises
A new study published by Statistics Canada examines the role of previous labour market experience in the relative success of women-owned enterprises. The study, titled, “Labour Market Experience, Gender Diversity and the Success of Women-owned Enterprises,” builds on the observation that majority women-owned enterprises often perform less well than majority men-owned enterprises in terms of revenue and employment size.
Production and disposition of tobacco products, April 2020
Canadian manufacturers produced 1.4 billion cigarettes in April, down 15.6% from March 2020. Cigarette production was 25.0% lower compared with April 2019.
