Manufacturing sales declined 0.6% to $57.8 billion in April, following a 2.6% increase in March.
Job vacancies, first quarter 2019
The number of job vacancies in the first quarter was 506,000, up 44,000 (+9.6%) from the first quarter of 2018. Over the same period, the job vacancy rate rose 0.2 percentage points to 3.1%, the fourth consecutive quarter over 3.0%.
Study: Residential Property Ownership Among Refugees in Vancouver and Toronto
Homeownership is an important milestone in the path that many refugee families follow towards social and economic integration. A new study based on data developed by the Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) provides, for the first time, detailed information on homeownership among resettled refugees in different segments of the Vancouver and Toronto housing markets, comparing the relative value of refugee-owned properties to those owned by Canadian-born residents. Resettled refugees include government-assisted refugees and privately sponsored refugees.
Study: Indicators of profit shifting by multinational enterprises operating in Canada
Statistics Canada has developed a dashboard of indicators using existing data to monitor whether multinational enterprises operating in Canada are shifting profits to lower tax countries, also known as Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS). These indicators suggest that from 2011 to 2016, some multinational enterprises in Canada may have shifted profits to minimize the amount of taxes they owed globally.
