Natural resource indicators, fourth quarter 2017
Real natural resource gross domestic product increased 0.4% in the fourth quarter, with growth in energy (+0.4%) offsetting a decline in mining (-0.2%). Natural resource prices were up 5.8%.
Canadian transportation economic account, 2013
Output for total transportation activity, as defined by the Canadian Transportation Economic Account, is estimated to be $128 billion in 2013. This represented 3.8% of the total Canadian output.
Federal government spending on science and technology, 2016/2017 (final), 2017/2018 (preliminary) and 2018/2019 (intentions)
Federal government science and technology (S&T) spending intentions are anticipated to decrease by 6.1% in 2018/2019, to $11.3 billion. This decline follows increases of 9.4% in 2016/2017 and 5.7% in 2017/2018, when expenditures reached a record $12.1 billion, surpassing the previous high of $11.6 billion in 2009/2010. The intentions for this release were collected from August 15 to November 30, 2017.
Engineering services industry, 2016
Operating revenue for the engineering services industry was $27.7 billion in 2016, down 7.6% from 2015. During the same period, operating expenses decreased 5.6% to $25.7 billion, a drop similar to 2015. This resulted in an operating profit margin of 7.1%, compared with 9.0% in 2015.
Couriers and Messengers Services Price Index, February 2018
The Couriers and Messengers Services Price Index (CMSPI) increased 0.7% in February following a 1.6% gain in January. The index has increased in each of the last five months.
