Canadian international merchandise trade, March 2026
In March, Canada’s merchandise exports posted a strong increase, rising 8.5%, while imports fell 1.6%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade balance with the world went from a deficit of $5.1 billion in February to a surplus of $1.8 billion in March. This is the first trade surplus since September 2025.

From the 2003/2004 to 2023/2024 academic years, the number of full-time international students in public postsecondary institutions in Canada increased eightfold. It then fell by almost one-third, according to new preliminary estimates now available for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years.
Canadian international trade in services, March 2026
Canada’s monthly international trade in services balance went from a slight surplus of $0.1 billion in February to a slight deficit of $0.1 billion in March. Overall, imports of services increased 1.7% to $20.4 billion, and exports of services were up 0.5% to reach $20.4 billion.
