Canada’s international transactions in securities, September 2020
Canadian investors acquired $11.2 billion of foreign securities in September, the highest investment in four months. Meanwhile, non-resident investors purchased $4.5 billion of Canadian securities, led by acquisitions of corporate instruments.
Wholesale trade, September 2020
Wholesale sales grew 0.9% to $66.2 billion in September and remained higher than February’s pre-COVID-19 level for the third straight month. In September, four subsectors recorded higher sales, with the food, beverage and tobacco and the personal and household goods subsectors contributing the most.
Study: COVID-19 and the Beef Supply Chain: an Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic rattled the Canadian beef supply-chain this spring by forcing the shutdown of many slaughterhouses and meat processing plants, pushing consumers to panic-buy beef in fear of a shortage. Consumers saw atypical increases in the prices of beef, while ranchers received lower prices for cattle sold.
Visitor Travel Survey, first quarter 2020
In an effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in March, many countries locked down their economies, restricted travel and closed borders. As a result, international arrivals to Canada during the first quarter were down by almost one-fifth (-18.2%) compared with the same period a year earlier.
Moderate growth in surveying and mapping services in 2019
Operating revenue for the surveying and mapping service industries increased 2.1% to $2.5 billion in 2019. This growth was led by Ontario (+11.3%) and British Columbia (+7.5%).
