Regular Employment Insurance beneficiaries totalled 571,800 in September, up slightly from August (+3,300 or +0.6%). On a year-over-year basis, the number of beneficiaries was up 27,800 (+5.1%).
Retail trade, September 2016
Following four months of little change, retail sales rose 0.6% to $44.4 billion in September on the strength of higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers.
Investment in new housing construction, September 2016
Investment in new residential construction totalled $5.1 billion in September, up 5.9% from the same month a year earlier.
Commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental and leasing, 2015
Operating revenues for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental and leasing industry decreased by 3.0% in 2015 to $11.6 billion. This coincided with a decline in the oil industry, which is a major client of heavy machinery rental and leasing services.
Surveying and mapping services, 2015
Survey and mapping service industries, which include geophysical and non-geophysical surveying and mapping, reported a combined $2.4 billion in operating revenue in 2015, down 18.7% from 2014.
