Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, third quarter 2021
The Canadian corporate sector saw a quarterly increase of 2.8% in net income before taxes (NIBT) during the third quarter. The non-financial sector drove the increase during the quarter, recording an increase of 5.6% in NIBT. The financial sector offset some of the gains made by the non-financial sector, slipping 1.6% during the period.
Survey on Access to Health Care and Pharmaceuticals During the Pandemic, March 2020 to May 2021
In the 10 provinces, approximately half of Canadian adults needing health care in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic experienced a difficulty receiving the services they needed. This finding is based on results from the Survey on Access to Health Care and Pharmaceuticals during the Pandemic, which was conducted from March to May 2021.
Food services and drinking places, September 2021
On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food service and drinking places subsector remained unchanged (+0.0%) at $6.3 billion in September 2021 compared with the previous month. Sales at full-service restaurants (-2.0%) and drinking places (-12.3%) fell, while sales at limited service eating places were up +2.0%. Special food services rose 6.6% as cafeterias re-opened in schools and workplaces and more catered special events were allowed to take place.
Accounting services, 2020
The operating revenue of the accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services industry rose 1.0% to $21.5 billion in 2020, the weakest growth since 2002. The demands on the accounting industry have changed quickly since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lockdown began in mid-March 2020, just a few weeks before the income tax filing deadline. In response, the Canada Revenue Agency extended the tax filing deadline to June 30, 2020, and the payment deadline to September 30, 2020. Many businesses relied on newly-instituted government programs to stay in business. On the whole, accounting services were needed for their expertise, to help businesses navigate these programs and uncharted economic times during the pandemic.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, October 2021
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for October. Advance results indicate that manufacturing sales rose 4.1% in October. The growth was mainly due to higher sales of motor vehicle (+61.3%) and motor vehicle parts (+23.0%) industries.
