Canadian Survey on Business Conditions, fourth quarter 2025
Cost- and labour-related challenges remain the top obstacles that businesses anticipate during the fourth quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, business optimism continues to be similar to that of previous quarters.
Monthly estimates of business openings and closures, August 2025
In August, the business opening rate contracted 0.3 percentage points to 4.7%. This decrease has offset the 0.3% increase recorded in the previous month. The decline in the business opening rate in August was entirely driven by the 0.3 percentage point decrease in the entry rate, as the re-opening rate held steady at 3.3%.
Full-time teaching staff at Canadian universities, 2024/2025
For the 2024/2025 academic year, there were just over 49,000 full-time teaching staff at Canadian universities, a stable number compared with 2023/2024, representing the smallest annual increase since 2016/2017. In 2024/2025, more than one-third (37.0%) of teaching staff were full professors, the highest academic rank, and two in five teachers (43.7%) were women.

Major Canadian airlines flew 7.2 million passengers on scheduled and charter services in September, up 2.3% from September 2024.
Oilseed crushing and major grain deliveries statistics, October 2025
Oilseed processors crushed 1.0 million tonnes of canola in October, up 2.0% from September and down 7.0% from October 2024. Oil production reached 428.8 thousand tonnes in October 2025, while meal production totalled 603.0 thousand tonnes.

Wholesale trade: Early indicator, October 2025
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for October. The advance results for October indicate that wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) decreased 0.1%. The decline reflects lower sales in the food, beverage and tobacco subsector as well as the agricultural supplies industry group.
