Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, third quarter 2019
Canadian corporate operating profits continued to grow in the third quarter, albeit at a slower pace. Corporate profits edged up 0.4% to $108.6 billion from the second quarter. Compared with the third quarter of 2018, operating profit decreased 5.4%.
Farm income, 2018 (revised data)
Realized net income of Canadian farmers declined 41.0% from 2017 to $4.2 billion in 2018 on sharply higher costs and a slight increase in receipts. It was the largest percentage decrease in realized net income since 2006 and followed a 2.8% decline in 2017.
Farm cash receipts, January to September 2019
Farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers totalled $47.3 billion in the first three quarters of 2019, up 4.4% from the same period in 2018. Receipts were up in every province except Saskatchewan (-2.4%) and Manitoba (-2.9%).
Dairy statistics, September 2019
The total amount of milk sold off farms increased 1.7% year over year to 756 256 kilolitres in September. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes increased 0.1% to 225 276 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes increased 2.4% to 530 980 kilolitres.
Deaths, 2018
There were 283,706 deaths in Canada in 2018—the highest number since the Vital Statistics registration system was introduced in 1921. The total number of deaths generally rises every year, in tandem with Canada’s growing and aging population.
Residential Dwelling Address Test File
As part of the Data Strategy Roadmap for the Federal Public Service, Statistics Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada have agreed to conduct a pilot test on the sharing of residential civic addresses with other government departments.
