Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, October 2017
The Industrial Product Price Index rose 1.0% in October, mainly due to higher prices for motorized and recreational vehicles. The Raw Materials Price Index increased 3.8%, primarily due to higher prices for crude energy products.
Number and salaries of full-time teaching staff at Canadian universities, 2016-2017
Women accounted for almost 40% of full-time academic teaching staff at Canadian universities in 2016-2017, up from 36.6% in 2010-2011. This is more than three times the proportion in 1970, when women comprised 12.8% of full-time teaching staff.
Characteristics of international overnight travellers, second quarter 2017
Against a backdrop of celebrations for Canada’s 150th and Montréal’s 375th anniversaries, international travellers made 5.5 million overnight trips to Canada in the second quarter, up 7.6% compared with the second quarter of 2016. Growth was led by a 13.4% increase in overnight trips by residents of countries other than the United States, while the number of overnight trips by US residents rose 5.2%. Tourism spending in Canada by these international travellers totalled $5.5 billion.
Police-reported hate crime, 2016
Police reported 1,409 hate crimes in Canada in 2016, 47 more than in 2015. This represented less than 0.1% of the 1,895,546 crimes (excluding traffic violations) that were reported by police services. The 3% increase in hate crimes was a result of more incidents targeting South Asians and Arabs or West Asians, the Jewish population, and people based on their sexual orientation. In contrast, hate crimes against Muslims and Catholics declined in 2016.
Police-reported cybercrime, 2016
Data for 2016 on police-reported cybercrime is now available for a subset of police services across Canada that report to the newest version of the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey. The survey collects data on criminal incidents reported to police, including information on victims and accused persons involved in the incident.

The volume of rail freight carried in Canada totalled 31.9 million tonnes in September, up 6.9% from September 2016.
Poultry and egg statistics, September 2017
Egg production rose 3.4% from September 2016 to 65.2 million dozen in September.
Canadian potato production, October 2017
Potato production was 105.9 million hundredweight (4.8 million tonnes) in 2017, up 0.4% from 2016.
Production and disposition of tobacco products, October 2017
Canadian manufacturers produced 2.0 billion cigarettes in October, up 19.0% from September. Cigarette production increased 5.2% compared with the same month a year earlier.
