Circumstances surrounding fire-related suicides, 2011 to 2020
Fatal fires are tragic events that are devastating to individuals, families, and communities. From 2011 to 2020, there were on average 220 fire-related deaths in Canada each year. While the majority of fire-related deaths were classified as unintentional, 1 in 6 were classified as intentional (i.e., suicide or homicide). Unlike unintentional fire-related deaths, intentional fire-related deaths result from an individual creating fire with intent to harm oneself and/or others.
Leading indicator of international arrivals to Canada, September 2022
In September, international arrivals to Canada—non-resident visitors and returning Canadians—more than tripled those arriving in September 2021, approaching but not yet reaching levels recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic.
New motor vehicle registrations, second quarter 2022
Canadians registered 431,861 new motor vehicles in the second quarter, declining 11.2% from the same period in 2021 but increasing 27.1% from the first quarter of 2022. Since 2017, the second quarter of each year has shown the highest number of new registrations, with the exception of 2020, when dealerships were closed for half of the second quarter due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Employment in the culture and sport sectors grew 3.7% in the second quarter, bringing the joint employment for the two sectors above their pre-pandemic levels (the fourth quarter of 2019) for the first time as few provincial restrictions on business activity remained.
