Exports of culture and sport products dropped 8.9% in 2019 to $20.2 billion in 2020, representing 3.1% of Canada’s total exports. During that same period, imports declined 12.8% to $23.2 billion, representing 3.3% of total imports.
Film and video distribution, 2021
The film and video distribution industry continues to change, as movies and television shows shift away from traditional forms and towards digital means. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for digital streaming services and platforms accelerated, as industry operators pivoted away from traditional channels such as movie theatres and film festivals, since they were unable to operate for most of 2021. As a result, a reduced need for distribution services, paired with operational changes in the industry, led to a decline of 24.9% in operating revenue from 2019, falling to $1.4 billion to 2021.
Surveying and mapping services, 2021
Surveying and mapping services in Canada have fully recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic, with a 14.8% increase in operating revenue in 2021, reaching $2.5 billion. This recovery was supported by key factors, such as a turnaround in the energy sector and strong growth in the real estate market.

A new article released today using data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (2015 to 2018) examines the labour and economic characteristics of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people in Canada. Employment and income, as well as challenges stemming from financial hardship, are key social determinants affecting the health and quality of life of individuals.

Statistics Canada has launched the Traffic Flow Dashboard as a source of experimental statistics to provide information on the traffic flow on selected road segments in the cities of Calgary and Toronto.
