Manufacturing sales declined 1.5% in July. Decreases in the wood product and in the aerospace product and parts industries were primarily responsible for the overall drop.
Model-based principal field crop estimates, August 2021
Canadian farm operators are projected to produce more corn for grain, but less wheat, canola, barley, soybeans and oats than in 2020, according to recent yield models using satellite imagery. Lower production has been driven largely by ongoing drought conditions in Western Canada, which are expected to decrease yields.
Experimental indexes of economic activity in the provinces and territories, May 2021
In May, the three-month moving average of economic activity rose in most provinces and territories. The average growth in economic activity over the March-to-May period was highest in Alberta and Saskatchewan, according to the principal component analysis-based experimental activity index. The experimental indexes indicate a decline in activity over the March-to-May period in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
