Payroll employment, earnings and hours, and job vacancies, July 2021
Payroll employment—or the number of employees receiving pay or benefits from their employer—increased by 324,800 (+2.0%) in July, the largest monthly increase since September 2020. Compared with February 2020, payroll employment was down by 427,800 (-2.5%) in July 2021.
Trade of culture and sport products, 2019
In 2019, exports of culture and sport products increased 4.1% to $20.4 billion, outpacing the growth in imports which rose 3.1% to $25.2 billion. Culture and sport exports represented 2.8% of Canada’s total exports, while culture and sport imports accounted for 3.2% of Canada’s total imports.
General Social Survey – Social Identity, 2020: A snapshot of pride in Canadian achievements among designated groups
Today’s release presents a snapshot of results from the 2020 General Social Survey – Social Identity. This release focuses on the pride that Canadians feel for selected Canadian achievements and how it compares across diverse population groups.
In 2020, there were 358,604 live births in Canada, excluding Yukon. Similar to previous years, the proportion of boys (51.4%) was slightly higher than the proportion of girls (48.6%).
Contact with children after divorce or separation
An analysis of the situation of separated parents in terms of the frequency and quality of contact with their child is of great interest. Scientific literature shows that divorce or separation has a negative effect on the development and well-being of children, and that the time parents spend with their child is one of the most important factors in the child’s development (see Gendered Effects of Parental Separation on Child Time Investments: A Longitudinal Time-Diary Approach).
Data tables: Selected arts and culture, and justice occupations and official languages indicators in Canada, 2001 to 2016
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing 10 historical data tables that provide information on the first official language spoken in Canada and its provinces and territories, knowledge of official languages in Canada and its provinces and territories, use of English and French at work in Quebec and use of French outside Quebec by justice workers in 2001 to 2016 and arts and culture workers in 2011 and 2016. These data are based on the 2001, 2006 and 2016 Censuses of Population and the 2011 National Household Survey.
Open Database of Recreational and Sport Facilities
The Open Database of Recreational and Sport Facilities (ODRSF) is now available as part of the Linkable Open Data Environment (LODE) initiative of Statistics Canada. The LODE aims to enhance the use, accessibility and harmonization of open microdata from authoritative sources such as governments and professional associations. It also supports collaboration around open data and their use towards production of official statistics and for geospatial research. The current version (version 1.0) of the ODRSF contains information on approximately 182,000 recreational and sport facilities across Canada.
Integrated Criminal Court Survey, 2019/2020
Data on adult criminal courts and youth courts in Canada are now available for 2019/2020.
