Energy statistics, June 2021
Following a 7.3% increase in May, primary energy production again rose 7.3% year over year in June, the fourth consecutive monthly increase. The large year-over-year increase was attributable to lower levels of energy production in June 2020 during the first wave of the pandemic. Crude oil and natural gas were the main contributors to the increase in primary energy production in June. Secondary energy production was up by over one-fifth (+20.2%) year over year, mostly on higher refinery production.

Today, Statistics Canada is releasing new data on the gender composition of corporate boards in Canada. The purpose of this release is to expand on the information previously published in March 2021 in the Daily article “Representation of women on boards of directors, 2018,” by providing more detailed information at the provincial and territorial level for the reference years 2017 and 2018. These data highlight women in leadership and strategic decision-making roles within corporations conducting business in Canada.
