About 60% of children under the age of 6 participated in some form of formal or informal child care in the previous three months. This represented almost 1.4 million young children.
Study: Employment and Social Assistance Receipt among Overdose Fatalities in British Columbia
A new Statistics Canada study documents the employment histories and receipt of social assistance income among 3,128 people who died of illicit drug overdoses in British Columbia from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2016. The study finds that the majority of those who died appear to have been in a position of economic vulnerability over a portion of their lives, but there are also important differences.
StatsCannabis data availability: Crowdsourced cannabis prices, first quarter 2019
The government of Canada legalized the production and sale of cannabis for non-medical purposes on October 17, 2018. With legalization, Statistics Canada updated the StatsCannabis crowdsourcing application to track changes in consumer behaviors in response to legalization of cannabis for non-medical use. These updates included new questions on the source of supply (legal or illegal) and first time use. These new questions supplemented the original questions on price, location, consumption, quality and quantity purchased.
Canada’s natural resource wealth, 2017
Higher oil and mineral prices combined to drive up the value of natural resource assets in 2017. Overall, the value of Canada’s natural resource assets totalled $715 billion, up 92% from 2016. The increase follows a 7% decline the previous year.
