Industrial research and development characteristics, 2016 (intentions)
Based on the intentions of research and development-performing firms, in-house research and development spending is expected to edge down from $18.5 billion in 2014 to $17.9 billion in 2015 and to $17.7 billion 2016.
Research and development in Canadian industry: Intellectual property, 2014
In 2014, businesses in Canada with current or previous research and development (R&D) expenditures received $2.3 billion in payments for their intellectual property (IP) or for the provision of technological services to other businesses. More than half of these purchases from R&D-active firms ($1.2 billion) were made by companies located outside of Canada, while purchases by companies located in Canada accounted for the remaining $1.1 billion.

Of the $18.5 billion that companies spent on in-house research and development in Canada in 2014, $2.1 billion was directed to energy-related technologies.

Canadian Health Measures Survey: Actvity monitor data, 2014 and 2015
The Public Health Agency of Canada, along with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, recommends that children and youth aged 5 to 17 accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) every day. Results from the 2014 and 2015 Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) indicate that fewer than 1 in every 10 (8%) Canadian children and youth met this recommendation on physical activity.
