Quarterly financial statistics for enterprises, second quarter 2022
Canadian corporations reported a quarterly increase of 6.5% in net income before taxes (NIBT) in the second quarter. The non-financial sector recorded growth of 10.2% in NIBT. The financial sector saw a decline in NIBT of 1.6% during the quarter.

Food services and drinking places, June 2022
On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food service and drinking places subsector increased by 0.8% to $7.1 billion in June 2022. As provinces lifted restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing people to return to the workplace and attend special events, sales were up at full-service restaurants (+1.4%) and special food services (+4.8%). Receipts edged down at limited-service restaurants (-0.4%) and drinking places (-0.3%).
Railway carloadings, June 2022
Canadian railways transported 30.1 million tonnes of freight in June, edging up 1.3% from June 2021 and the second consecutive month of year-over-year increase in tonnage. Large increases in loadings of iron ores and energy products offset the ongoing declines in grain shipments.

Wholesale trade: Early indicator, July 2022
Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for July. The advance results for July indicate that wholesale sales fell 0.6%. The decrease reflects lower sales in the motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories subsector.
