Canada’s balance of international payments, second quarter 2018
Canada’s current account deficit (on a seasonally adjusted basis) narrowed by $1.6 billion in the second quarter to $15.9 billion. In the financial account (unadjusted for seasonal variation), strong foreign investment in Canadian private corporate bonds led the inflow of funds in the quarter.
Comparing Canada’s and China’s bilateral trade data, 2014 to 2016
In 2016, Statistics Canada, Global Affairs Canada, the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM) and later the General Administration of Customs of China agreed to form a joint working group on Trade Statistics Reconciliation. The objective of the working group is to explain and quantify the differences in the statistical trade data of the two countries and to carry out an in-depth analysis of the origins of these differences. The identified differences in this report do not imply errors in the statistical systems of either country nor represent revisions or corrections to either country’s published trade figures.
Digital economy, July 2017 to June 2018
Nearly 80% of Canadians aged 18 and older reported using free versions or purchasing digital products, such as music and video streaming services, e-books, online games, mobile applications (apps) and computer software from July 2017 to June 2018.

The volume of rail freight carried in Canada totalled 31.6 million tonnes in June, up 2.5% from the same month a year earlier.
Air fares, 2017
Base air fares in Canada, domestic and international combined, averaged $232.50 in 2017, up 2.0% from 2016 and reversing the downward trend of the previous three years.
Farm Product Price Index, June 2018
The Farm Product Price Index (FPPI) declined 2.3% in June compared with the same month a year earlier, primarily due to lower livestock prices. The year-over-year decreases, which began in February 2018, followed seven months of gains from July 2017 to January 2018.
Computer and peripherals price indexes, July 2018
The price of desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers rose 0.8% in July.
Commercial Software Price Index, July 2018
The Commercial Software Price Index (CSPI) increased 0.1% from June to July.
