Study: The value of data in Canada: Experimental estimates

New leading research by Statistics Canada suggests that the value of the country’s stock of data was over $200 billion in 2018, greater than the value of the stock of our industrial machinery and around 30% of the value of the stock of our natural resources.

StatsCannabis data availability: Crowdsourced cannabis prices, second quarter 2019

The government of Canada legalized the production and sale of cannabis for non-medical purposes on October 17, 2018. Prior to legalization, Statistics Canada updated the StatsCannabis crowdsourcing application to capture changes in consumer behaviours due to the newly legal status of cannabis. Updates included new questions on the source of supply (legal or illegal) and first time use, in addition to the original questions on price, location, consumption, quality and quantity purchased.

Family income mobility of Canadian taxfilers, 1982 to 2016

Since the early 1980s, with the exception of the early 1990s recession, more Canadian taxfilers saw their real family after-tax income rise than fall. Over time, they also became more likely to stay on the same rung of the income ladder and were less likely to move up or down relative to other taxfilers.

Study: Evolving Internet Use Among Canadian Seniors

The number of Canadian seniors using the Internet doubled from 2007 to 2016, a faster growth than any other age group, but the percentage of seniors on the Internet is still far below the non-senior population. These findings are from a new study released today which examines changing Internet use by seniors (people aged 65 and older) and associated characteristics.
