Principal field crop areas, June 2016
Canadian farmers reported seeding more land to lentils again this year, continuing the strong upward trend observed over the past four years. Seeding of soybeans and corn for grain increased, while canola was relatively unchanged from 2015. The areas seeded to spring wheat, oats and barley fell in 2016.
National tourism indicators, first quarter 2016
Tourism spending in Canada rose 1.1% in the first quarter, after growing 0.3% in the fourth quarter. This was the 12th consecutive quarterly gain in tourism spending and the largest increase since the second quarter of 2014.
Railway carloadings, April 2016
The volume of rail freight carried in Canada totalled 28.3 million tonnes in April, a 7.2% decrease from the same month last year. From April 2011 to April 2016, the total volume of rail freight carried in Canada increased 5.7%.
Quarterly civil aviation statistics, third quarter 2015
The total operating revenue reported by the 25 largest Canadian airlines reached $6.1 billion in the third quarter, up 3.2% from the same quarter in 2014. Total operating expenses were down 2.1% to $4.9 billion, largely on falling fuel prices.
Aircraft movement statistics: Major airports, April 2016
There were 490,045 aircraft take-offs and landings in April at the 91 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations, compared with 461,210 movements in the same month the previous year.
