Press Release
Study: Projections to 2036 of the labour force in Canada and its regions
In recent years, the participation rate—defined as the size of the labour force relative to the total population aged 15 and older—has decreased, despite a relatively robust economy, low unemployment and higher levels of immigration. This is largely the result of population aging, as the large cohort of baby-boomers are entering their retirement years.
Household actual final consumption
Social transfers in kind—the value of services provided by governments and non-profit institutions to households—increased steadily from $224 billion in 2008 to $315 billion in 2018 (nominal terms).
Police-reported violence involving same-sex intimate partners in Canada
There were 651,484 police-reported incidents of intimate partner violence (IPV) in Canada from 2009 to 2017. Approximately 3% of these incidents involved same-sex intimate partners.
Annual Survey of Environmental Goods and Services, 2017
Ontario businesses sold almost $9 billion worth of environmental and clean technology goods manufactured in Canada in 2017, the most of any province. Quebec was second, at just over $2 billion dollars in sales. Together, these two provinces accounted for more than half of all domestically-manufactured environmental and clean technology goods sold in 2017. The 2017 survey includes several new categories of environmental and clean technology goods and services, compared with its 2015 precursor.
Health Reports: Tinnitus in Canada
An estimated 37% of adult Canadians (9.2 million) experienced tinnitus in the past year. It was bothersome for 7%, affecting sleep, concentration or mood. Tinnitus is the perception of noise, such as ringing or hissing, without an external, sound-producing source and can range in severity from a temporary inconvenience to a chronic, life-interfering condition. A new study released today in Health Reports explores factors associated with the condition.
