Study: A day in the life: How do older Canadians spend their time?

In 2015, 91% of senior women and 83% of senior men engaged in unpaid household work in a typical day. About three-quarters of senior men and women engaged in “active pursuits,” such as exercising or socializing, and almost all senior men and women also engaged in passive leisure activities such as watching television.

Investment in new housing construction, January 2018

New housing construction investment totalled $4.4 billion in January, up 9.4% compared with January 2017. Investment was up for all dwelling types.

Food services and drinking places, January 2018

Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector were down 0.5% to $5.8 billion in January. Prices for food purchased from restaurants were up 3.7% in January while prices for alcoholic beverages rose 1.4%.

Annual retail trade, 2016

Store and non-store retailers had operating revenue of $595.1 billion in 2016, up 3.8% from 2015. The growth was driven by higher sales in three subsectors (motor vehicle and parts dealers, food and beverage stores, and health and personal care stores), which together contributed more than two-thirds to the increase.

Health Reports: Smoking among Inuit men and women in Inuit Nunangat

Lung cancer is a growing public health concern among Inuit. While rates of daily smoking have been decreasing among this population since 1991, the overall prevalence of smoking among Inuit remains relatively high, especially in Inuit Nunangat. Smoking is linked to more than two dozen diseases and conditions including lung cancer, respiratory illnesses and cardiovascular disease.

In 2014/2015, Canada spent $2,952 per capita on all levels of education combined, down 2% from 2007/2008. The highest per capita expenditure was in the Northwest Territories in 2014/2015, while the lowest was in New Brunswick.
