Gross domestic product by industry, January 2021
Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.7% in January, following 0.1% growth in December.
Household actual final consumption, 2020
Household actual final consumption (HAFC) decreased by 3.2% (-$52.8 billion) in 2020, the first decrease since 2008. The decline was driven by the decrease in household final consumption expenditure, as shutdowns implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19 limited household spending.
National tourism indicators, fourth quarter 2020
Tourism spending in Canada declined 2.0% in the fourth quarter, closing an otherwise volatile year for the tourism sector. Tourism spending was almost cut in half (-48.1%) in 2020. Tourism gross domestic product decreased 3.3% in the fourth quarter and was down 47.9% annually.
Industrial product and raw materials price indexes, February 2021
In February, the Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) rose 2.6%, the largest monthly increase in the index in over 40 years, since January 1980 (+3.8%). The Raw Materials Price Index (RMPI) was up 6.6% month over month, the biggest gain since May 2020 (+15.0%).
