Consolidated Canadian Government Finance Statistics, 2016
The deficit of the Canadian General Government—federal, provincial-territorial and local governments combined—in their consolidated net operating balance totalled $18.1 billion in 2016, following a $12.9 billion deficit in 2015. This increase was largely attributable to expenses (+2.6%) outpacing revenues (+1.9%).

Homicide in Canada, 2016
In 2016, police reported 611 homicide victims in Canada, 2 more than the previous year. Despite an increase in the number of homicide victims, the homicide rate (1.68 per 100,000 population) decreased by 1% from the previous year, the result of growth in Canada’s population.
Food services and drinking places, September 2017
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector totalled $5.8 billion in September, up 0.8% from the previous month. Prices for food purchased from restaurants were up 2.7% in the 12 months to September and prices for alcoholic beverages were up 1.4%.
