Canadian international merchandise trade, July 2023
In July, Canada’s merchandise imports decreased 5.4%, while exports were up 0.7%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the world narrowed from a revised $4.9 billion in June to $987 million in July.
Labour productivity, hourly compensation and unit labour cost, second quarter 2023
Labour productivity of Canadian businesses fell 0.6% in the second quarter, extending the string of declines observed since the second quarter of 2022. The decline observed in the second quarter of 2023 occurred within a quarter marked by a slowdown in business output and growth in hours worked.
Canadian international trade in services, July 2023
Canada’s monthly international trade in services deficit widened from $1.1 billion in June to $1.4 billion in July. Overall, imports of services were up 1.7% to $16.4 billion, while exports of services edged down 0.3% to $15.0 billion.
