Canada’s National Observer: Alberta Premier Danielle Smith may be leading the charge for a new oil pipeline to the northern BC coast, but she’s getting support from a “petrobloc” of political allies in Ottawa and beyond.
A constellation of Conservative politicians, right-wing think tanks, fossil fuel companies and a raft of columnists are amplifying one another’s messaging to rally the public and persuade federal officials in favour of new fossil fuel infrastructure. The alliance is not new, but in recent weeks the individuals and groups have ramped up the public pressure on Prime Minister Mark Carney and BC Premier David Eby to dismantle climate policies and revive the Northern Gateway pipeline.
