The Quebec Native Friendship Centre Movement Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

Centres have opened in the province’s cities to respond to the needs of a growing urban Indigenous population and to fill the gap in service delivery.

The Regroupement des centres d’amitié autochtones du Québec (RCAAQ) was founded in 1976 for and by the Centres wishing to create a provincial structure for consultation, coordination and representation.

Today, the RCAAQ continues to represent, consult and support the development of a dynamic Native Friendship Centre Movement based on cooperation, open-mindedness, pride, human relationships, proximity and respect. The RCAAQ represents 11 affiliated Native Friendship Centres in the following cities: Chibougamau, Joliette, La Tuque, Maniwaki, Montréal, Québec City, Roberval, Senneterre, Sept-Îles, Trois-Rivières and Val-d’Or.
