Treaty Office Statement: Chief Darcy Bear Appointment as Chair of SaskPower Board

On behalf of The Saskatoon Tribal Council and its member nations, Tribal Chief Felix Thomas congratulates Chief Darcy Bear on his appointment as the Board Chair for SaskPower. Tribal Chief Felix Thomas, says, “The Sask Power board will be well served having Chief Bear as Chair. This is a significant step toward Indigenous inclusion in the broader Saskatchewan community.”

Chief Bear has served as the Chief of Whitecap Dakota First Nation. He currently sits on ten boards and is a recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan in 2005, named one of the “Ten Most Influential People” by Saskatchewan Business Magazine, and received the CANDO “Economic Developer of the Year” award in 2006. In December 2011, he was honoured with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the highest recognition given to residents of Saskatchewan. In 2012 Chief Bear was honoured with the Diamond Jubilee Medal reflecting his commitment to service.
