U of G Prof Featured in Globe and Mail on Indigenous Tourism

U of G Prof. Marion Joppe, School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, is quoted in a Globe and Mail article about the threat COVID-19 is posing to the Indigenous tourism industry.

That industry has grown rapidly in recent years, but the pandemic is forcing the widespread cancellation of events and bookings. Businesses are seeking access to federal assistance.

“If businesses can’t get bridging loans, or if travel restrictions remain in place until 2021, many of these micro and small businesses will not survive,” Joppe is quoted in the article, adding it will be devastating for owners and staff.

Prof. Joppe teaches in several areas of tourism, including policy and planning, sustainability and low carbon tourism.
