Enoch, Alberta–February 13, 2014: The National Indigenous Council of Elders (NICE) is hosting a three day forum on “Understanding Indian Trust Funds”. This forum will be held March 31 – April 2, 2014 at River Cree Resort in Enoch First Nation, Alberta.
Currently there are billions of dollars often referred to as ‘Indian monies’ held in these various trust funds. This informational forum will create dialogue on topics such as: designing Trusts based on traditional concepts; Supreme Court rulings, how wealth can work collectively and collaboratively benefiting Indigenous economies, as well as different types of trusts including federal, provincial, compensation and others.
All First Nations, Metis, Inuit and any interested members of the general public are invited to come examine the various types of ‘Indian Trusts’ in Canada. Distinguished and learned speakers including Elders, visionaries and other professionals will be sharing their wisdom and experience concerning ‘Indian Trust Funds’.
This conference is the fourth in an ongoing series studying models for Indigenous self-reliance, through a forum established by NICE called The Creation of Wealth. This is a timely and exciting opportunity to gain greater capacity, understand and contribute to Indigenous people’s advancement in determining sustainable self-reliance for future generations.
