Updates to Minette Bay South Saltmarsh

Press Release

Nov 20, 2024

In 2022, LNG Canada completed construction of a saltmarsh habitat offset on the southwestern bank of Minette Bay. This work enhances local fish habitat by extending the saltmarshes, which provide value for foraging and rearing.

We have monitored the effectiveness of the saltmarsh over the last three years and determined that some updates are required to support marsh plant growth.

Between end of November 2024 to mid-January 2025, we will raise the outer rock berm and core fill marsh lobes. During this period, trucks will haul material during the day along Minette Bay Road. Please follow traffic instructions and signage when travelling this road. We will place growing medium and plant nursery plugs next spring.

These updates are critical to ensuring the establishment of the saltmarsh vegetation and the proper functioning of Minette Bay South. We will closely monitor the effectiveness of the repairs over the next two years, focusing on key success criteria such as physical stability and vegetation growth.

LNG Canada is dedicated to upholding its environmental responsibilities and contributing positively to natural and local biodiversity. We appreciate the community’s support and understanding as we undertake these necessary works to support our shared environment.
