A business owner in Watson Lake, Yukon has moved his business out of the community in order to keep his woodcutting business afloat.
Bill Whimp, who owns Bill’s Woodcutting, was born and raised in Watson Lake. He said for years he’s been the main supplier of firewood in the community, and that he’s now been forced to relocate his operation 600 kilometres away, to Haines Junction, Yukon. He blames a lack of new, accessible woodlots in the Watson Lake area.
“There’s literally nothing to access,” said Whimp. “There hasn’t been new blocks put out in this area in about 20 years.”
