Joint news release with Council of Yukon First Nations

The Government of Yukon and Council of Yukon First Nations welcomed implementation of the first phase of the Yukon First Nations Procurement Policy. As of February 22, 2021, portions of the policy will be used by procurement authorities on Government of Yukon procurements.

The Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations partners will continue to meet with the business community to ensure the implementation of this policy is a success for all Yukoners. Following feedback from these meetings, Yukon businesses will get more time to prepare for the two most complex measures under the new policy, bid value reductions and the verification process. Additionally, the Government of Yukon and its First Nations partners are now inviting business representatives to participate on the Monitor and Review Committee. These changes are being made to help ensure the policy meets its goals and supports competitive procurement in the territory.

Every Yukon business deserves an opportunity to succeed. The Yukon First Nations Procurement Policy is a positive step in that direction. This extension will ensure that Yukon First Nations and non-Yukon First Nations businesses get the time they need to succeed for the territory’s overall benefit.

• Implementation timelines of bid value reductions and the verification process will be pushed back until October 4, 2021.
• The Monitor and Review Committee is responsible for ensuring the policy is reaching its intended goals and always being improved.
• The Government of Yukon has been meeting with Yukon First Nations, industry stakeholders, Chambers of Commerce and the Yukon Contractor’s Association since this policy was approved in December.
